Evelyn Lily

I was very excited over the weekend to drive up to the Sunshine Coast and to stock up my space within the new Handmade/Designer retailer Evelyn Lily. Based in Buderim Evelyn Lily is the latest retailer specialising in providing space for designers to sell their wares in a shop.

The shop itself has a lovely light airy feel to it, and my only disappointment was that as one of the first designers to stock their space it meant that I was unable to see the completion of all the other spaces. I love the set up though as well as my own space, on a gorgeous shelf unit right in front of the window.

After the opening night that was enjoyed by all who could make it tonight, the shop will be open to the public from tomorrow morning. So if you are up on the Sunshine Coast, pop in and enjoy all the handmade goodness.

Sunday Theme - Halloween

What more suitable theme for this Sunday than Halloween, celebrated worldwide on the 31st October. Halloween is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating.

Twilight Market Pod Partners

At each of the BrisStyle Twilight Markets the majority of the stall are teamed together in groups of four - Pods. Effectively each pod is a cube or square shape with one stall taking each quarter. This gives each of us two sides of our marquees open to the public and two sides backing on to each other. This is great for sharing lighting, security and general market camaraderie.

So having said all that I would like to introduce you to some terrific stall holders, and my Pod partners for the market on Friday:

Fashion Show Photoshoot - 1

A short time ago I mentioned that my jewellery was in a Charity Fashion Show and that I had just attended the pre-show photoshoot. Well I have now been sent some photos from the shoot so I will gradually share them with you. All the "models" in the photos, the same models who then did the show, are all actually medical students from UQ.

BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market - Oct 28th

Well the countdown is on for the next BrisStyle Twilight Market - just four days to go. I'm really looking forward to this one after missing out last time due to ill health. The above is a picture I took of my stall at the last twilight market I did in July. Hopefully the shoppers will also be starting to think Christmas shopping by now and will be coming to spend. With plenty of stall to choose from sporting a large variety of goods there is sure to be something for everyone.

Sunday Theme - Mixed Metals

It used to be that you should never mix your metals when wearing jewellery - you either wore silver or you wore gold - but you never, ever, wore the two together. I can certainly remember being told that when I was younger.

Well, times have changed. These days, it is perfectly acceptable to wear more than one metal at the same time, in fact it is one of today's modern trends. More than that, these days there are some great jewellery designs that incorporate more than one metal into the same piece of jewellery. My Stripy Silver and Gold Viking Weave Bangle, pictured above, is one example. This mixes Sterling Silver and 14k Gold.

Sunday Theme - Spring

We're in the middle of Spring here in Australia so it seemed a good time to make this my theme of the week. Spring is the season of new beginnings, evidenced of course by the rebirth of the plant life that sleeps during Winter, as well as new births in the animal kingdom. Spring, by the same token, is also the time of all things fresh, of saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new, of making a fresh start. Who doesn't remember their parents giving the house a spring clean each year!

I have a few pieces that speak Spring to me, but I think the piece that really makes me think of Spring is my Green Gemstone Charm Bracelet, pictured above. The varying shades of green from the different gemstones and crystals give the bracelet such a fresh, bright look that really screams Spring.

Here are some more Spring themed items from some members of the BrisStyle team:

October Birthstone - Opal

The Opal is one of the most lustrous and radiant of gems, and certainly one of my favourites. The ever changing iridescence and flashes of colour that you see in opals is always so beautiful.

The ancient Greeks upheld the opal as a sign of purity and hope, while the ancient Romans believed the opal kept the wearer safe from harm. For thousands of years opals have been regarded as a source of imparting inner beauty and faithfulness to the wearer.

The romance of opals is legendary. Cleopatra is said to have worn opals to attract Mark Anthony, Queen Victoria was a passionate collector, opals were set in the crowns and necklaces of rulers who believed in their protective powers, and Aborigines believe in the spiritual value of opals, believing they represent the sign or presence of an ancestor.

One of the pieces I have made using some beautiful Australian opal beads is my Boulder Opal and Sterling Silver Necklace, pictured above.

Here are some more beautiful pieces featuring opals from some members of the Jet team:
